I am so so excited to write this review! This book was.. wow. I honestly haven’t read a book that I’ve loved this much in so long. Where The Crawdads Sing is the debut novel from Delia Owens. The story takes place in North Carolina, starting in 1952 a 6 year old Kya Clark has a very tough home life. Her family is very poor and lives in a shack on the marsh. To make her situation worse, her family starts leaving her one by one. The hardest being her Mom and older brother Jodie. Leaving Kya to be stuck with her alcoholic, abusive father. The story goes through the years of Kya grows up being secluded on the marsh, being called “The Marsh Girl” by the towns people. Kya does the impossible, she survives her conditions, finds love, and becomes one with the marsh. The story jumps back and forth from Kya growing up, to 1969 where Chase Mathews, the towns "golden boy” is dead. With Kya being the main suspect.

The book was so well written. I honestly haven’t fell so in love with a book for a while. I truly think that this is now my all time favourite books. The start was really depressing, to the point where I didn’t think I could keep going, but I am so glad I did! The characters in this story will stick with me for a very, very long time.
