Harper’s First Month
On November 3rd at 4:18pm we welcomed our beautiful daughter Harper Karen Elle Laba. Harper’s due date was October 24th, so it felt like such a long wait for her to finally get here! I honestly thought I was going to be pregnant forever. I kept having false labour that would only stop if I was walking around. I woke up at 3:30am having contractions, super annoyed thinking it was false labour again I woke up to walk around the house, and have a snack. The contractions didn’t stop, so when they were 3 minutes apart we decided we should head to the hospital. I honestly still didn’t believe that I was in labour. When we got to the hospital they confirmed that I was in labour I was so so so happy knowing that we finally would meet our little girl. I ended up getting the epidural, something I didn’t get when I was in labour with Owen, and my god was it wonderful!! I could still walk, and felt absolutely no pain until it was time to push at 4:05pm. I always hear horror stories from people that get the epidural and I’m so lucky that it worked so well for me. After about 15 minutes of pushing we finally had our baby girl! She weighed 7 pounds 3 ounces and was 19 inches long.
The first month of Harper being here has been amazing. We were busy having visitors for the first few weeks, it was nice to have people come by to visit (and give me a reason to shower). Now that we don’t have many people coming over we have really just got to spend time together and bond. Whenever Dalton has hockey Owen gets to stay up late and Harper, Owen and I watch Harry Potter in bed. Those are my absolute favourite nights, Owen usually asks to cuddle with Harper and it just makes me so happy to see them together! Owen absolutely loves her, we were really nervous that he wouldn’t adjust well. The first time he met her he covered his ears because she was “too loud”. He comes into our room right after he wakes up every morning to check on her and give her a hug. It is the cutest and is such a good way for us to start our day.
People aren’t lying when they say having two kids is way more of a challenge than it was with just one. Dalton took the week after Harper was born off to stay home and I was very nervous for him to go back to work. Luckily Owen is usually good for helping me and will grab her diapers or pass me my water if I’m feeding her! I still get a bit nervous when I go out with just them, so we usually just go to superstore or the mall to walk around and get out of the house for a bit, but thankfully it’s winter so it is a perfect excuse to stay inside.
Harper had her four week check up this past Friday and she’s almost 9 pounds! AHH she’s grown so much I can’t believe it. Time really does go by so fast with kids, and even on the tougher days I try to remind myself that they are only this little once, and to enjoy every moment I get to spend with them. I feel so lucky that our little family is complete. I may be extremely exhausted most days, over caffeinated and unsure of what the hell I’m doing, but I know we will get there and every day with them is such a blessing. Thanks so much for reading my post!
Have a wonderful Day
